This year will mark our tenth anniversary of running of the "Classic Tour" since we took over the organisation of the event. As our regular entrants will know, the event is run entirely on a voluntary basis by the Newquay Auto Club committee members and all proceeds, other than direct costs, are donated to the Cornish Hospices. Over the last seven years the Club, the event sponsors, and those who take part, have combined to raise a total of over £8000 for this most worthwhile cause.
Our four loyal sponsors have yet again agreed to carry their support for the event into a fourth successive year. Thanks principally to their continued generosity, we are again able to maintain the entry fee at £25. This includes morning coffee at the prescribed mid-morning halt and the traditional cream tea at the finish venue.
Last year we used a route featuring the Roseland and Lizard peninsulars. In keeping with our aim of giving our regular entrants a varied route each year, the 2008 event will again mainly use the far North of the County.
If you are interested in entering the event, perhaps for the first time, the route will, as usual, be 100 -115 miles in total, on good roads, all taken at a leisurely pace with generous coffee and lunch breaks.
An easy to follow Road Book is supplied which is designed to keep even the inexperienced navigator on the correct route rather than get you lost!
There is also a generous array of perpetual trophies for various classes of classic car. We continue to take a liberal view of what constitutes a true "classic" and are unlikely to refuse your entry (as many will know previous "Tours" have included “modern” Morgans, Lotus 7's as well as some late model kit cars) ; basically all are welcome to what is invariably a very friendly and enjoyable day for all with the added knowledge that you are at the same time helping to benefit a most worthwhile cause.
We look forward to seeing you all again on 29th June!
